It is located in Montgomery County and is bordered by Wheaton to the south, Aspen Hill to the northeast, Olney to the north, and Layhill to the west. The CDP has a total area of 4.7 square miles, all of which is land.

Glenmont is served by the Glenmont station of the Washington Metro's Red Line, which provides easy access to downtown Washington, D.C. The area is also home to several parks, including Wheaton Regional Park and Brookside Gardens. There are numerous shopping and dining options in the area, including the Glenmont Shopping Center and the newly developed Wheaton Triangle.
